The Governor of Edo State Monday Okpebholo has declared a state of emergency on public schools in the state following their condemnable state.
This is coming after Governor Monday Okpebholo’s visit to Evbarake secondary school in Egor and Army Day secondary school in Ikopba-Okha , both in Benin city on Tuesday March 25. The Governor has expressed utmost disappointment and displeasure over the condition of these schools.

He said : “I feel very bad, I must be honest with you. Look at this place—children are here studying. For me, it is unacceptable,”
Students and teachers seized the opportunity to narrate their unsettling experiences and daily challenges. They lamented over the absence of basic needs within the school premises including multiple leaking roofs and an unhygienic environment.
“Sometimes, when we arrive in the morning for classes , we find excreta littered all over the place ” a student explained.

Teachers also confirmed similar experiences stressing the need for an urgent intervention by the state government.
Governor Monday Okpebholo’s declaration of state of emergency on public schools marks the beginning of a transformation for public schools in Edo state.
