The South-West governors recently met in Lagos and unanimously adopted the Yoruba anthem, sparking varied reactions. Critics like Mr. Kolawole Olaiya deem it a misplaced priority, urging focus on welfare and security. Conversely, Afenifere lauds it as a symbol of unity and historical pride. Meanwhile, Otunba Tayo Onayemi notes it’s an existing anthem renewed by the governors, not a new initiative. However, concerns about the anthem’s inclusivity remain, with calls from groups like Dee Osun Monitors to amend references to ensure broader Yoruba representation.
