What you should know about Bianca Ojukwu and Maigari Dingyadi
On Wednesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the selection of new ministers in a much-awaited cabinet reorganization.
Following the meeting of the Federal Executive Council, the presidency released a statement announcing the appointment.
Ten ministers were also reassigned to new ministerial posts by the president.
Remember that three months after taking office, in August 2023, the President named 48 ministers. The ministers were promptly vetted and confirmed by the Senate. In January, Simon Lalong, one of the ministers, transferred to the Senate, while Betta Edu, another, was suspended.
The president is under pressure to reorganize his cabinet, though, because many Nigerians are dissatisfied with the way some of the ministers have performed, particularly in light of the country’s terrible economic conditions, record-breaking inflation, and growing insecurity.
In September, Bayo Onanuga, the president’s spokesperson, stated that the president would rearrange his cabinet but did not specify when the reorganization would take place.
Speaking at a news conference held at the State House in Abuja, Onanuga voiced his worry that Nigerians were still ignorant of the administration’s accomplishments in spite of tremendous efforts. “The President has stated that he wants to reorganize his cabinet, and he will do it,” he said. He will undoubtedly do it, but I’m not sure if it will happen before October 1. Since no date has been given, that is all I can offer at this moment.
Onanuga went on to comment on the performance of the present administration
Saying, “The President directed all ministers to actively promote the administration’s activities at the most recent Federal Executive Council meeting.”A few ministers have been cautious and have shunned radio, television, and other media. The President hopes that they will get past this and share their efforts with the public. Due to the fact that although the government has been doing a lot, there is a perception that it is not doing enough. And it is their responsibility to take the initiative and brag about themselves. They ought to go out there and discuss the activities of their ministry.
