The Sultan of Sokoto has declared the anticipated date for observing the Ramadan moon in Nigeria in 2024.
Under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has advised Muslims nationwide to watch for the Ramadan moon in 2024 (1445 AH) starting from Sunday.
The NSCIA has also encouraged Muslim believers who spot the crescent to report their sightings to the National Moon Sighting Committee, as stated by Prof. Salisu Shehu, the Deputy Secretary General of NSCIA, in a statement released on Friday.

He stated that Sultan Abubakar extends his best wishes to the entire Muslim Ummah on the auspicious occasion of the upcoming 1445 AH Ramadan Fast. The council fervently prays for Allah to grant every Muslim the opportunity to partake in the ibaadah exercise and to fully reap its benefits.
He also referenced a verse from the Glorious Qur’an regarding the significance of the month of Ramadan.

“Following the guidance of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC), the President-General urges the Nigerian Muslim community to seek the crescent moon of Ramadan 1445 AH immediately after sunset on Sunday, March 10, 2024, corresponding to the 29th of Sha’aban 1445 AH.
“If the crescent is sighted by trustworthy Muslims on that evening, His Eminence (the Sultan) will declare Monday, March 11, 2024, as the first day of Ramadan 1445 AH. However, if the crescent is not sighted, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, will automatically become the first day of Ramadan, 1445 AH,” Shehu stated.
He further emphasized that amidst prevailing economic challenges, the council calls upon affluent Muslims in the country to extend acts of charity to the less privileged within their communities before, during, and after the month of Ramadan.
