The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has issued a strong warning to residents and traders operating beneath high-tension power lines in Kaduna State, urging them to vacate these areas immediately to prevent deadly accidents and avoid further interruptions to the national electricity supply.
This warning was delivered during a high-level awareness forum organized by TCN in Kaduna, aimed at engaging community members on the rising threats of vandalism and illegal construction within transmission corridors.
TCN’s General Manager for the Kaduna Region, Engineer Nasir Mansur-Fada, said, “We are appealing to the public stay away from high-voltage lines. These structures are not just dangerous they’re critical to our nation’s electricity.”
He revealed that despite ongoing efforts to expand and upgrade transmission infrastructure, rampant vandalism and illegal encroachments are sabotaging progress.
Technical experts at the event, including Mr. Simon Innocent, Manager System Lines, and Mr. Yakubu Abdulrazaq, Assistant Manager Electrical, outlined the dangers such encroachments pose—from obstructing maintenance work to causing electrocution and fires.
The TCN urged continued cooperation from communities and security agencies to protect the nation’s power infrastructure from further damage and to ensure a reliable electricity supply across the country.
