The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has begun a screening exercise and Computer-Based Test (CBT) for 564 senior teachers and zonal secretaries vying for the positions of principals and vice-principals.
Speaking at the launch of the two-day exercise held at Baptist Boys High School, Saje, Abeokuta, TESCOM Chairman Abiodun Sanyaolu explained that the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen leadership across the state’s education system.
He explained that the process was designed to ensure merit-based selection among qualified officers already on grade levels 16 and 17.
The chairman revealed that 250 senior staff were shortlisted for the post of principal, while 314 were being considered for the position of vice-principal, urging participants to conduct themselves responsibly.
He stressed that their performance in the exercise would determine their eventual postings and test their knowledge of educational policies, school administration, curriculum planning, financial management and staff supervision.

“TESCOM is not resting on its oars in raising the standard of school leadership. This process will directly impact the quality of teaching and learning, as well as the overall standard of education in Ogun State,” Sanyaolu said.
In their goodwill messages, the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, ASUSS, Comrade Felix Agbesanwa, and the President of the All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, Mr Adeniyi Adekoya, commended the state government for the transparent process and its commitment to raising educational standards.
Some of the participants in TESCOM, including Mrs Mosurat Salami of Salau Abiola Comprehensive High School, Osiele, and Mr Kolawole Oluajo, Zonal Secretary, Ipokia Local Government, expressed delight at being shortlisted, pledging to justify the confidence reposed in them if given the opportunity to serve as school heads.
