The former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, disclosed that when he was on the verge of being impeached during his tenure, the then-president, Olusegun Obasanjo, intervened by sending representatives to persuade members of the State House of Assembly to halt the impeachment process.

However, Obi pointed out that a similar situation is unfolding in present day Nigeria, but this time, it is the current president, Tinubu, who is actively driving the ‘impeachment’.

’I became a governor through the court when President Obasanjo and Atiku were governor. I did not pay the court N1 . I was sitting in my house in the office and the court declared me winner. When I was being impeached, the President sent people to come and intervene on my behalf, beginning the House not to impeach me. Today, the President is impeaching the person”.

Peter Obi made these remarks in response to President Tinubu’s recent declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State and the subsequent suspension of the governor, his deputy and members of the State House of Assembly.
