“They’re After Me!” Gbajabiamila on Lagos Gov Contest
Femi Gbajabiamila, President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff (CoS), has virtually discounted the possibility of governing Lagos State. He once said that there is no time to think about becoming the governor of Lagos State while he is being weighed down by the daily responsibilities of being CoS to the president.
However, he noted that such claims are the handiwork of detractors bent on pulling him down. This was part of the revelation made by CoS of the president during a general assembly of the Surulere All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the indoor hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos on Saturday: Gbajabiamila said, Some people are saying he came back from America about 20 years ago.
After spending three to four years, he became the principal officer to the Minority Whip, from there he became Minority Leader, then Majority Leader, and from Majority Leader, he became Speaker.
Recently, emerging names in relation to the governorship seat include Lagos State Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and President Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu.
Addressing the gathering, Gbajabiamila said: “Some say he just came back from America about 20 years ago. After spending three to four years, he became principal officer to the Minority Whip, from there he became Minority Leader, then Majority Leader, and from Majority Leader, he became Speaker.
They said: “If we sit and allow him to keep moving someday, he will return to Lagos to become governor.”
As they thought with how I am progressing, it is time to quickly drag me down so that I may not have standing in Lagos.
Please tell them it’s not yet time for governorship. There are still two and a half years left-it’s still far. God Almighty knows who will become the next governor. My current job as Chief of Staff is so demanding that I cannot finish it. I have no time to be thinking.
