President Bola Tinubu has announced the approval of a subsidy on the cost of kidney dialysis sessions to ease the financial burden on Nigerian patients.
The president’s adviser, Sunday Dare, revealed the news on Monday, August 18, 2025, via Twitter. He clarified that thousands of Nigerians suffering from kidney-related illnesses will benefit from the scheme, which will initially implement the subsidy in ten public hospitals.

One of the biggest obstacles to life-saving therapy in Nigeria has continued to be the high cost of dialysis sessions. Speaking on this topic, Dare stated that patients in the chosen hospitals will now pay N12,000 for a dialysis session rather than the N50,000 that was previously necessary due to the subsidy order.

Dare explained that the subsidy is being effected at federal hospitals across the six geo-political zones of the country. He added that patients have received the subsidy, and many of them are happy with the reduction.
