Trump Reveals plans on travel ban over 43 countries, exclude Nigeria and others.

The United States President, Donald Trump in a report published on Saturday has announced plans to impose a travel ban on 43 countries.

According to the report, which cited an internal memo and officials familiar with the information, the Trump administration is considering a major expansion of its travel ban.

The internal memo lists a total of 43 countries, divided into three groups: red, orange, and yellow. While the list is yet to be approved by the Trump administration, the report stated that it includes several African countries. However, major African economies such as Nigeria, South Africa, Algeria, and Egypt are exempted from the list.

It was revealed that the red group comprises 11 countries whose nationals would be barred from entering the United States. The countries listed include; Afghanistan, Iran, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Cuba, Bhutan, Venezuela, North Korea, Yemen, and Somalia. This group is subject to the most severe restrictions.

The second group which is the orange group is comprised of 10 countries whose visas would be sharply restricted. The countries listed under this group include; Russia, Belarus, Myanmar, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Pakistan, Laos, Turkmenistan, Haiti, and Eritrea.

 

The countries in the yellow group, totaling 22, have been given 60 days to address concerns. These nations include Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe.

The New York Times had initially revealed the list of countries slated for the proposed visa ban. However, a US official disclosed that the list is subject to change and is yet to be approved by the administration, including the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.

The proposal is part of an immigration crackdown launched by Trump at the beginning of his second tenure in January
