Nigerian students who are applying to be admitted to the United States have been warned by the US government to utilise their visas sensibly while they are there.

The United States added that the students can make the most of their time in the United States and return to Nigeria with all of their treasured memories if they keep their student visa status and make sure they follow all rules.

The Public Diplomacy Officer, United States Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria, Brian Neubert, gave the warning during the 2025 EducationUSA Fair in Abuja with the theme ‘Empowering Future: Discover American Excellence in Education and Innovation’.

Brian revealed that officials from 28 American institutions and colleges were in Abuja, thanks to EducationUSA, to attract Nigerian students to their campuses.

According to him, the United States is proud to partner with Nigeria in empowering the next generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers.

“For those who decide to pursue studies in the United States and if found eligible for a student visa, it is important to responsibly maintain your student visa status, ensuring you comply with all regulations so you can make the most of your time in the United States and take back with you to Nigeria all of your cherished experiences.”

Brian cautioned the students further, saying that they should be aware that they are continuing a long line of Nigerian students who have achieved success in American universities and gone on to make important contributions to their communities and the globe as they think about their future.

Brian on a lighter note, added that innovation in Nigeria was truly remarkable, stating that not only in Lagos, Nollywood, and the creative industry, but also in Ilorin, Kano, Jos, and other places throughout the country, both in urban and rural areas, innovative, hard-working Nigerians are solving problems, bringing about change, opening doors, and creating jobs.
