An unfortunate tragedy struck in Kofar Guga Quarters in Katsina metropolis as four persons were confirmed dead following a stampede during the distribution annual Ramadan alms.
The event happened on Friday at around nine o’clock at night at the home of philanthropist Alhaji Dahiru Usman Sarki, when a sizable throng had assembled to accept donations.
DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the occurrence in a statement. He added that a distress call was received at the Central Police Station in Katsina, indicating that the Ramadan gathering had gotten out of hand and resulted in a stampede.

He clarified that although police officers were sent to the area right after to help rescue casualties and restore order, four of them eventually passed away from wounds they had received in the rush.
He affirmed that a thorough inquiry has been launched to ascertain the cause of the catastrophe and prevent future incidents of the same kind.
Aliyu said: “On the 26th February, 2026, at about 9pm, a distress call was received at the Central Police Station in Katsina about a large crowd gathered at the residence of one Alh Dahiru Usman Sarki, a philanthropist, situated at Kofar Guga Quarters, Katsina, resulting in a stampede incident.

“Upon receipt of the report, promptly, a team of policemen responded to the scene. The rescuers rushed the victims to the nearest hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, 4 of the injured later succumbed to their injuries.
He urged individuals and organizations planning public charity events, particularly during the Ramadan period, to notify the police in advance to enable adequate security deployment and crowd control measures.

He emphasised that aggressive cooperation with law enforcement and other security services will assist guarantee beneficiaries’ safety and stop preventable deaths.
