Retired General, Rabe Abubakar Dies In Kidnappers Custody, Buried in Katsina

Former Director of Defence Information, Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar has died in the hands of his abductors after weeks in captivity.

Recall that bandits earlier kidnapped the ex-defence spokesperson and his wife in Katsina.

In more recent development, General Rabe Abubakar(Rtd) was laid to rest in Katsina on Saturday after funeral prayers attended by family members, military officers, government officials and residents.

A crisis reporter, Bakatsine  disclosed the development in a post shared via his X handle.

According to him, the funeral took place after the Katsina State Government confirmed  General Rabe’s demise while captivity following his abduction alongside his wife along the Matazu axis of the state on May 30.

Speaking also, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu Danmusa,  said that security authorities received information indicating that the retired general died while in the custody of his abductors.

In addition,  the state government, Abubakar died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension despite sustained efforts security agencies to secure his freedom.

Tinubu reacts

Following this, President Bola Tinubu has reacted to the the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar.

Tinubu, in a State House statement on Saturday, said he received the news of the former military officer’s death with “shock and sadness”.

Tinubu further described the incident as a tragic reminder of the security challenges facing parts of the country.
He also said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed shock over the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of terrorists in Katsina State.“General Abubakar, after a distinguished career in the military, retired a few years ago. He was on his way to his hometown when the hoodlums captured him.”
