‘I’ve Been Denied Peace’ — Adichie Chimamanda faults Euracare for seeking order to delay inquest into son’s death

Renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has publicly accused Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital in Lagos of obstructing a coroner’s inquest into her son’s death, adding that the hospital provided negligent medical care and later attempted to conceal its actions.

Chimamanda also shared a copy of a letter dated April 16 that she wrote to the chairman of the hospital’s board of directors, detailing the alleged stalling tactics employed by the medical institution as her family pushed for justice.

Recall that Nkanu, one of Adichie’s twins, passed on January 7, 2026, following complications during a series of preparatory medical procedures.

Following this, Chimamanda served the hospital a legal notice, alleging that medical negligence and professional misconduct contributed to her son’s death.

Subsequently, the Lagos State Judiciary then commenced an inquest into the circumstances surrounding his death on April 14.

However, on June 2, a high court in Lagos had ordered a temporary halt to the inquest following an application filed by Euracare.

Adichie said Euracare turned “uglier” after her April letter to the chairman and accused the hospital of creating “delays and distractions”.

Furthermore, Chimamanda stated in the letter that the hospital’s Medical Director, Tosin Majekodunmi, initially told the family that Nkanu died because anaesthesiologist Titus Ogundare administered “too much propofol.”
The ‘Americanah’ author also claimed that Majekodunmi, who had previously been humane while dealing with her family, subsequently became reticent after a while.
