APC challenges Gov Adeleke over alleged missing security drones

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration to provide proof backing claims that security drones purchased under the previous government have gone missing.

The opposition party rejected Governor Ademola Adeleke allegation that five drones acquired during the tenure of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola cannot be accounted for, describing the claim as baseless and insisting that it must be backed with official documentation.

The dispute followed a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, who said the Adeleke administration was unable to trace five security drones allegedly paid for under the previous administration. He also noted that the government was considering purchasing new drones to enhance security operations in the state.

Reacting, Osun APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi rejected the claim and urged the public not to be misled by what he called false information.

He stated that the Adeleke administration should prioritise addressing current security challenges instead of blaming past administrations for its shortcomings. Olabisi also insisted that former Governor Oyetola did not procure any drones during his four-year tenure, challenging the government to present evidence if otherwise.

“The members of the public should discountenance this Governor Adeleke’s blatant lie about the purchase of the drones by former Governor Oyetola being peddled by him in order to misinform the unsuspecting members of the public to score a cheap political point,” he said.

He further criticised the governor’s handling of the issue, arguing that it was unnecessary to keep referencing the previous administration after more than three years in office.

“It was our belief that the embattled Governor Adeleke would put an end to the running of his administration with lies and subterfuge towards the tail end of his administration that is winding up in November this year, but unfolding events have shown that it is pretty impossible for a leopard to change its colour,” he added.

Olabisi urged residents to hold the current administration accountable for ensuring security across the state, stressing that protecting lives and property remains the responsibility of the government in power.
