The Edo Central seat became vacant, following the resignation of Senator Monday Okpebholo who was elected governor.

The by-election will be the first after the opposition leaders’ coalition established the ADC as their platform to run in the 2027 elections.

Political observers speculate that the results of the elections could impact the ADC’s strength in the upcoming elections.
