Oyo: Makinde Reassures Families of Abducted Oriire Victims

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has promised that his administration will continue working to secure the safe return of the teachers and children abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

Makinde made this statement on Saturday while visiting the area to offer his condolences to the deceased’ families and relatives at L.A. Basic School in Ahoro Esiele.

In addition to pleading for the people’s cooperation and understanding, the governor urged them to work together to successfully rescue the abductees rather than blaming the federal or state governments.

Governor Makinde also expressed sympathy to the community’s residents and the impacted families, stating that this would be Nigeria’s first instance of an abduction involving a minor.

He said that, whatever the abductors’ grievances, their actions are cruel, unacceptable, and inhumane. He further added that the families and communities are deeply pained by the incident, and he shares their grief and concern.

The Oyo state governor said, “Don’t cry. I have come here today because of you. You installed this government. I want to let you know that this government is responsible to you. By the grace of God and your cooperation, we will bring back our children and the teachers.

“Please, I want you to cooperate with us because we are doing everything humanly possible to get our children and teachers back.”

Additionally,  he said, “This is not the time to start trading blame on who should be responsible for the release of these children between the state and federal government. This is just the time to come together to rescue our children and their teachers.
