‘There’ll Be Consequences’ — Presidency Warns VDM Over Fake Tinubu Audio

The Presidency has vowed to prosecute Nigerian social media critic, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as Verydarkman, VDM, for allegedly sharing a fake audio of President Bola Tinubu.

An X user, @Pious_minister, earlier drew attention to the President’s AI-generated audio in VDM’s video.

The audio clip captured Tinubu’s voice, saying that the insecurity in Nigeria would continue because Nigerians didn’t vote for him in 2023.

Responding to the audio, presidential media aide, Bayo Onanuga in a post on his official X handle, vowed the VDM would be made to face the full weight of the law.

He wrote, “This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu.

“This is a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform”.

However, a quick check by our correspondent reveals that VDM may have deleted the clip as there appears to be no such audio in his videos.

BACKSTORY…

This comes just few weeks after the social media critic announced that he will be stepping away from all social media platforms for a while.

VDM also said the decision comes amid claims that his content has been diverting the attention of Nigerian youths from holding the government accountable.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, VDM explained that his temporary exit is intended to give young Nigerians the space to focus more on protests and their civic responsibilities.
