Rotimi Amaechi stressed that party members must be allowed to freely choose their preferred candidate, insisting that internal democracy should be upheld. He added that leadership should emerge through a credible and open voting process rather than closed-door agreements.

On the possibility of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerging as the party’s flag bearer, Amaechi said he would support him if he wins a fair and transparent primary. However, he maintained that no aspirant should be handed the ticket without going through due process.

He described Atiku as highly qualified to contest for the presidency, noting that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to run for the nation’s highest office, regardless of zoning debates.

Amaechi also dismissed arguments around North–South power rotation, arguing that competence should take priority over regional considerations. According to him, Nigeria needs a leader with the capacity and energy to address its growing challenges.

Rotimi Amaechi referenced global examples of younger leaders emerging in different countries, saying leadership requires strength, responsiveness, and the ability to act decisively in times of crisis.

The former Rivers State governor further advised Nigerians against voting based on religion or ethnicity, saying such choices have contributed to the country’s current challenges. He argued that economic hardship affects everyone equally, regardless of background.

Criticising the administration of President Bola Tinubu, Amaechi said the worsening economic situation has placed significant strain on citizens.

He stated that rising fuel prices, transportation costs, and food inflation have made daily survival difficult for many Nigerians, stressing that leadership should prioritise economic recovery and citizens’ welfare over identity politics.
