JUST IN: Sanwo-Olu endorses Obafemi Hamzat as 2027 successor

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has formally endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, for the 2027 governorship, describing  him as the “best man for the job.”

A video clip sighted on Monday reveals that the endorsement was made during a meeting with party leaders at the governor’s office in Alausa, Lagos.

While speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu prayed for his constable and wished him courage, serenity, and heavenly assistance in his future pursuits.

He said, “Peace of mind, peace in your family among your children, wife, spouse and everybody. That which you require, God will provide it for you: renewed strength, God Almighty will make it available for you.”

The governor reiterated his faith in Hamzat’s ability to lead while thanking party members for their ongoing support.

As the conference ended, Babajide Sanwo-Olu hugged his deputy and raised his hand before party officials and members—a symbolic gesture that drew cheers from the crowd.

Meanwhile, the announcement comes amid growing speculation over potential candidates for the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Lagos governorship ticket, with political discussions positioning Obafemi Hamzat as a front-runner.

However, former governorship candidate Abdul-Azeez Adediran, well known as Jandor, had previously denied allegations that the party had chosen a preferred candidate.

Jandor claimed that the party leadership had not made a formal decision in a statement released by his spokesperson, Gbenga Ogunleye.

However, he stated that if the party ultimately chooses a consensus candidate for the race, he would support the result.
