While undergoing military cadet training in London in 2005, the 15-year-old prince was involved in a terrible traffic accident that resulted in internal bleeding and potentially fatal brain injuries.

Despite extensive medical  treatment and care involvement of experts from the United States and Spain, he never regained full consciousness. He remained in a minimally responsive state for 20 years.

Throughout his illness, Prince Khaled steadfastly believed in a divine power to intervene and refused requests to remove life support. Videos of the prince’s infrequently displayed mild bodily reactions, especially to Quranic recitations, were posted by the family on occasion, inspiring widespread public sympathy and optimism.

His passing brings an end to a tale that won over hearts in the Arab world and beyond.

The Saudi Arabia sleeping prince, Prince Al-Waleed, the eldest son of Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, passed away as announced by his father in a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.
