In a statement shared on his verified X account on Friday, Shehu Sani said intimidation and hostility were not the right approach.
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) had called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately remove Amupitan as INEC chairman.

Meanwhile, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the Northern States has urged the Shari’ah Council to clearly identify any individual or group behind the campaign against the INEC chairman, warning that religious platforms should not be used as a “cheap cover” to advance political interests or intimidate public officials.
Shehu Sani wrote: “Threats, mistrusts and casting aspersions on the INEC chairman is unconscionable and not the way to go.
“What is most important is that the Head of the electoral body should be tasked, monitored and supported to conduct credible and transparent elections for the sustenance of our democracy.”
