Sheikh Rigi Rigi Death: Renowned Islamic Scholar Khalifa Usman Idris Dies in Kaduna
Renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Khalifa Usman Idris, popularly known as Sheikh Rigi Rigi, died after a prolonged illness. The respected cleric reportedly died on Sunday night at a hospital in Kaduna, leaving behind a legacy of deep Islamic scholarship and impactful preaching.
Confirming the death of Sheikh Rigi Rigi, his son-in-law, Abubakar Ɗanyaro, disclosed that the late scholar passed away peacefully while receiving medical care. He added that the funeral prayer would be held on Monday after the Asr prayer at the scholar’s residence in the Kusfa area of Zaria, in line with Islamic rites.
The death of Sheikh Rigi Rigi has drawn emotional reactions from followers and students who admired his depth of knowledge in both Furu’a, which covers jurisprudential branches, and Usul, the fundamentals of Islamic teachings. He was widely regarded as a versatile teacher whose sermons blended wisdom, clarity, and a unique sense of engagement that resonated with many listeners.
The late cleric gained international attention for his Tafsir of Suratul Hajj, which stood out for its creative and symbolic teaching style. During the exposition, Sheikh Rigi Rigi was often seen wearing pilgrim attire similar to what is worn in the sacred Haramain of Makkah and Madinah to vividly explain the verses and rituals of Hajj.
Despite criticism from some quarters over his approach and dressing, the scholar remained focused on delivering impactful teachings. His distinctive style sparked conversations within Islamic circles, but many acknowledged that his method helped simplify complex Qur’anic meanings and brought the message closer to people across different backgrounds.
