Somtochukwu Maduagwu’s tragic death: Police arrest suspects, estate management panic over their own negligence

    Findings gathered have revealed that the police has arrested some suspects associated with the tragic death of the Arise TV news anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu.

    Recall that early on Monday, September 29, the gifted journalist was killed in an armed robbery incident at her home in Katampe, Abuja, according to a previous report by  NaijaEyes.

    In a desperate attempt to escape from the attackers, Somtochukwu Maduagwu jumped from the balcony and sustained injuries, leading to her tragic demise.

    Maduagwu, the Arise TV anchor was not the only casualty — Barnabas, a security guard in the compound, was shot to death while trying to resist the robbers.

    Following the sad incident, President Tinubu among other public figures and bodies demanded a probe and investigation into the incident.

    During a Tuesday visit by The cable, it was discovered that police officers from the Mabushi divison  had made some arrests including a driver of one of the residents, a second security guard who had been on duty during the crime, and a few young guys from nearby shanties.

    Non-residents were prevented from entering the apartment complex by three armed police officers stationed at the entrance.

    Attempts to speak with the divisional police officer were however rebuffed.

    Security lapses and negligence by the estate management

    Additionally, it was also discovered that on the night of the attack, important building safety precautions had been compromised.

    According to other occupants who wished to remain anonymous, the apartment’s CCTV cameras were broken, preventing investigators from getting any film. As the armed guys attacked, the apartments were in complete darkness due to the failure of the inverter powering the compound.

    According to reports, residents pay N5 million a year for a two-bedroom flat in the complex, which is run by Amazing Grace Ventures.

    When asked about the events, real estate firm representatives seemed uncomfortable. They responded by requesting that the reporter remove every photo he had taken of the complex using his cell phone.
