During a political session at the 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, who represented former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, clashed over Nigeria’s political future.
The session formed part of the NBA’s “Beyond Limits” conference, which brought together legal professionals and political figures to discuss Nigeria’s direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The discussion covered the impact of government policies, particularly fuel subsidies and transportation, as well as the records and performance of former Nigerian public officials.
Responding to the disagreements during the session, Amaechi warned Nigerians against being deceived by politicians who had previously held public office but failed to deliver meaningful results.
He said, “I like what Amaechi said. He said that apart from Sowore and Adebayo, the rest of them have governed before and have failed. You guys should be apologising to the Nigerian people.”
Citing a railway project built by a former Rivers State governor, Amaechi argued that discussions about transportation policy should also consider the issue of fuel subsidies.
He also criticised former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, accusing him of failing to invest adequately in education during his tenure.
Amaechi defended his record as Transport Minister, claiming that the Lagos-Ajaokuta railway was operational while he served in office.
He then turned his attention to Sowore and challenged Rivers State lawyers to tour the state alongside the presidential candidate.
Additionally, asked told Sowore to remain quiet while politicians with governing experience were speaking.

Recall that Omoyele Sowore is one of the presidential candidates for the 2027 election. Few days ago, the political analyst along with other presidential candidates signed a peace accord ahead of the elctions.
