The Nigeria Police Force (FCT command) has debunked reports surrounding the alleged re-arrest of human rights activist Omoyele Sowore moments after the court granted him bail.
According to earlier reports, Sowore, who was detained for planning the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest but was released on bail on Friday, was arrested again in the courthouse soon after.

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, refuted the allegations, stating that the activist would not have been sent straight to prison if he had been detained again.

“Story that he was arrested on a fresh charge and whisked away to Kuje Prison to be arranged on Monday is procedurally incorrect. A person arrested on a fresh charge cannot be taken straight to prison. No prison will accept such a person without a remand warrant duly issued by a competent court,” Leadership quoted the Force PRO as saying.

Hundeyin went on to explain that Sowore was only imprisoned in accordance with the court’s order to fulfil his bail requirements.

“He was taken to prison as instructed on the attached remand warrant pending when he meets his bail conditions, nothing more,” he said.
