Ballon d’Or 2024 to be awarded on September 22 with equal recognition for men and women
The esteemed Ballon d’Or award ceremony is set to take place on September 22, 2024, and will feature a significant change: for the first time, an equal number of awards will be given to both male and female players, as announced by the organizers on Monday.

The event will be held at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and will be co-hosted by France Football magazine and UEFA. This year, new categories have been introduced, including Best Women’s Goalkeeper, Best Young Women’s Player, and Top Women’s Scorer in club or national competitions.
With these additions, there will be a total of six awards for both male and female players, in addition to the Socrates Award, which honors players for their humanitarian or solidarity efforts, regardless of gender.

Nominees for all categories will be revealed in early August.
The 2023 ceremony faced controversy when Real Madrid boycotted the event after discovering that Vinicius Junior did not win the Best Men’s Player award, which was awarded to Rodri of Manchester City instead.
The 2024 ceremony is anticipated to be more inclusive and celebratory, representing a significant step forward in recognizing football talent around the world.
