Herve Renard Sets Sights on 2026 World Cup After French Olympic Stint
Herve Renard, currently managing the French women’s national team, has his eyes set on a different kind of gold: the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Despite gearing up for the upcoming Summer Games and crucial Euro qualifiers with France, Renard has announced his departure from the women’s program after the Olympics, aiming to return to the men’s game.
This decision revealed in an interview with Le Figaro, doesn’t dampen his commitment to the French team. Renard assured the French Football Federation of his focus in January and emphasized his excitement for the upcoming challenges.
Focus on Olympics, Dream of Third World Cup
“It had to be done at some point,” Renard stated, “but that doesn’t call anything into question. With my staff, we are having a lot of fun, we can’t wait to start the Games.”
However, his long-term goal is clear. “It’s a difficult job,” he acknowledged, “If I had to be brief, I have in the back of my mind the 2026 World Cup in men’s football. I hope that it will be my third World Cup at the head of a men’s team. These are my personal motivations.”
Herve Renard’s dedication to football management extends beyond the upcoming Olympics and Euro qualifiers. While leading France through these competitions, his heart remains set on a return to the men’s game and a potential third World Cup appearance. This personal ambition fuels his commitment during this transitional period in his coaching career.
