Medical test results from Algerian boxer Imane Khelif’s screening for the 2023 World Championships have reportedly been leaked, revealing that her chromosome analysis indicates a male karyotype. Olympic

The report was published by American journalist Alan Abrahamson on the 3 Wire Sports website just 36 hours after World Boxing mandated that Khelif undergo sex screening to remain eligible for future competitions in the female category.

The leaked document, dated March 17, 2023, describes the findings regarding the Olympic champion as abnormal.

The test was performed at Dr. Lal PathLabs in New Delhi, a facility accredited by the American College of Pathologists and certified by the International Organization for Standardization.

These results are directly linked to Khelif’s disqualification from the 2023 World Championships due to a failed gender eligibility test.

The publication of these documents contradicts the statements made by IOC spokesman Mark Adams during a tense press conference at the Paris Olympics. Adams had referred to the 2023 test results as ad hoc and illegitimate, asserting, “Those tests are not legitimate tests.

The tests themselves, the process of the tests, the ad hoc nature of the tests are not legitimate.” He further criticized the testing methodology, claiming, “The testing, the method of the testing, the idea of the testing, which happened kind of overnight. None of it is legitimate, and this does not deserve any response.”

The release of the accredited laboratory documentation from Dr. Lal PathLabs challenges Adams’ characterization of the testing process as illegitimate.

World Boxing has imposed an indefinite ban on Khelif, preventing her from competing in the female category at any of its events, including the upcoming Eindhoven Box Cup scheduled for June 5-10, 2025.

The governing body has sent a letter to the Algerian Boxing Federation confirming that Khelif is not allowed to participate in the female category at the Eindhoven Box Cup or any World Boxing event until she undergoes genetic screening in accordance with World Boxing’s rules and testing procedures.

This situation jeopardizes Khelif’s aspirations to defend her gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

The controversy surrounding Khelif began with her disqualification from the 2023 World Championships in New Delhi, where the International Boxing Association claimed she failed gender eligibility tests. IBA president Umar Kremlev stated that Khelif has XY chromosomes, which are typically associated with males.

Despite this, Khelif was allowed to compete at the Paris Olympics after the IOC removed the Russian-led IBA from its governing role and replaced it with the Paris Boxing Unit.

She was cleared to compete based on her female passport and identification as female.

The 26-year-old excelled in the 66kg competition, defeating China’s Yang Liu by unanimous decision in the final, making her Algeria’s second Olympic gold medalist.

Throughout her participation, the IOC faced ongoing pressure to address questions regarding her biological sex classification.
