Six-Goal Thriller at Villa Park Keeps Golden Boot Race Alive
Aston Villa and Brentford served up a dramatic 3-3 draw at Villa Park, with both sides sharing the spoils after a six-goal rollercoaster.
Watkins on the Hunt:
The returning Ollie Watkins continued his pursuit of the Premier League Golden Boot, scoring twice for Villa. His first goal, just before halftime, came courtesy of a pinpoint John McGinn cross, reminding everyone why these two are Villa’s most consistent performers.
Villa Takes the Lead:
Villa doubled their advantage early in the second half with Morgan Rogers’ first goal for the club. However, Brentford refused to go down without a fight. They clawed their way back into the game with two goals in quick succession, scored by Mathias Jorgensen and Bryan Mbeumo, both within two minutes of each other.
Late Drama:
Yoane Wissa then appeared to have snatched all three points for Brentford with a late tap-in from a Sergio Reguilon cross. Yet, Watkins had the final say, grabbing his second goal of the match with 10 minutes remaining to secure a point for Villa.
League Table Update:
This draw keeps Villa in fourth place on 60 points, three points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur who have played two games less.
