The Super Eagles of Nigeria Look to Secure a 2026 World Cup Qualification against the Republic of Benin in a Must-Win Match.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be hosting the Cheetahs of the Republic of Benin in a must-win match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup (CAF) qualification first round.
This will be a great moment in history for Benin should they win or draw with Nigeria, as they would qualify for the World Cup for the first time.
The Cheetahs will be looking to capitalize on South Africa’s point deduction for fielding an extra player as against FIFA’s rules. They currently top Group C after winning their last matchday 9 match against Rwanda. While Nigeria will be gunning to beat Benin and hoping that South Africa loses or draws its own match.
Group C current standings are as follows:
- Benin: 17 points (+5 GD)
- South Africa: 15 points (+3 GD)
- Nigeria: 14 points (+3 GD)
- Rwanda: 11 points (-1 GD)
- Lesotho: 9 points (-4 GD)
- Zimbabwe: 5 points (-6 GD)
The match will be played at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Nigeria, on Tuesday at 6pm (16:00 GMT).

Coach Eric Chelle of the Super Eagles will be releasing the first eleven to face the Cheetahs of the Republic of Benin later today.
Recall that NaijaEyes reported on the Super Eagles having a plane scare while moving from South Africa to Nigeria; this forced them to make a quick stop at Angola to fix the issue.
