HP Nigeria funds digital equity initiatives

HP Nigeria has once again demonstrated its commitment to bridging the digital divide by funding and supporting local nonprofits through its prestigious Digital Equity Accelerator. In a powerful display of community impact, HP Nigeria recently awarded comprehensive grants and resources to two home‑grown organisations—She Code Africa and Slum2School Africa—aimed at expanding access to technology and building essential digital skills across underserved Nigerian communities.

This year’s awards are part of the global HP Digital Equity Accelerator, an initiative designed to support nonprofits across Greece, Indonesia, Spain and Nigeria. HP Nigeria leads local efforts, ensuring that the resources allocated are tailored to the specific needs of Nigerians striving to join the digital economy. Through these efforts, HP Nigeria has fortified its role as a key driver of inclusive digital transformation.

Each selected nonprofit receives a robust support package—including a US$100,000 grant from the HP Foundation, an equivalent value in HP technology, and six months of specialised programmatic mentorship, capacity‑building, and impact-measurement assistance. This package reflects HP Nigeria’s strategy to couple financial assistance with practical resources and expert guidance, empowering local organisations to scale effectively.

Emmanuel Eze, Country Director for HP Nigeria, emphasised the deeper purpose behind the investment: “HP Nigeria is honoured to collaborate with organisations like She Code Africa and Slum2School Africa. These partnerships allow us to reach more communities, reinforcing our commitment to meaningful impact beyond business.”

Amplifying local impact

She Code Africa, a dedicated tech‑training initiative launched in 2016, focuses on equipping women across Africa with digital and technical expertise. Over the past nine years, it has served more than 62,000 participants through training, mentorship, scholarships, and career programs. HP Nigeria’s support will enable She Code Africa to intensify its curriculum and reach new learners, particularly in AI, software development, and emerging technologies.

Similarly, Slum2School Africa—a grassroots nonprofit founded in 2012—is focused on elevating educational opportunities in underprivileged communities. Through its STEM & Innovation Programme, the organisation introduces underserved children and youth to robotics, coding, AI, and design thinking. This Spring, Slum2School Africa was also recognised as a global winner of HP’s 2025 Digital Equity Accelerator prize—a testament to its growing influence in digital education.

“Our mission is to ensure that no child is left behind in digital access. Being honored by HP reinforces that our local solutions have global resonance,” said Orondaam Otto, Founder and Executive Director of Slum2School Africa.

Strategic global alliance, local execution

HP Nigeria’s initiatives are part of a broader international push to close what HP has called a “US$1 trillion-plus digital divide” that affects billions worldwide. Launched in 2022, the Digital Equity Accelerator has already reached more than nine million people through selected nonprofit partners across eight countries.

While the global programme sets the framework, HP Nigeria is essential to its success, providing contextual insights, local execution, and bespoke support. As Yesh Surjoodeen, Managing Director for Southern Africa, explained: “HP Nigeria is honoured to be part of this year’s 2025 Digital Equity Accelerator and congratulates She‑Code Africa and Slum2School for their selection…”

Building sustainable change

HP Nigeria’s approach follows a proven model of combining financial grants, hardware donations, mentorship, and performance tracking to ensure nonprofits can scale with impact and sustainability. The six‑month accelerator includes technical assistance, content development, and strategies for long‑term measurement—all tailored to local conditions.

Josephine Kolawole, Marketing Coordinator for HP Central Africa, expressed pride in the team’s achievement: “We pitched for this alongside several countries and won by showcasing our profound impact and unwavering commitment to digital equity here in Nigeria.” The success reaffirms HP Nigeria’s leadership in delivering meaningful outcomes rooted in local understanding.

A ripple effect across Africa

Nigeria’s inclusion in the 2025 Accelerator is part of HP’s belief that global progress depends on deep, community-based execution. Alongside.

To date, the Accelerator has backed 27 nonprofits worldwide—including in Brazil, Canada, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, South Africa and the U.S.—affecting more than nine million people. HP plans to continue scaling this model, guided by its global vision to accelerate digital equity for 150 million people by 2030.

Future outlook

Looking ahead, HP Nigeria will focus on:

  1. Ensuring She Code Africa and Slum2School Africa scale their digital‑learning frameworks to reach more underserved communities.
  2. Strengthening relationships with local governments, schools, and tech hubs to embed digital skills training into mainstream education.
  3. Systematically tracking outcomes to ensure sustainability and inform future funding models.

Michele Malejki, Global Head of Social Impact at HP and Executive Director of the HP Foundation, summarised the global vision: “The future of work depends on equitable access to technology, digital skills and opportunity… By investing in these organisations, we are not just expanding access—we are powering the future of work.”

Why HP Nigeria digital equity matters

By turning corporate resources into local solutions, HP Nigeria exemplifies how global initiatives can make a measurable impact at home. From tech and funding to mentorship and measurement, each element plays a role in overcoming barriers—be they physical, economic, or educational.

As Emmanuel Eze remarked, “Our greater purpose is to make an impact in the world.” HP Nigeria is doing exactly that, helping to craft a more inclusive, digitally literate future for Nigeria.
