The Imo State chapter of the Action Peoples Party (APP) has accused the state government of being behind an alleged attack on supporters of Ikenga Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato North and South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.

According to the party, the incident occurred at Christ Anglican Church in Itueke, Ideato South LGA, during a constituency briefing and the official unveiling of a federal constituency office.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Steve Nnadi, the APP alleged that the state government deployed security personnel alongside masked individuals believed to be thugs to disrupt the event. The party claimed that attendees—including men, women, and youths—were subjected to harassment, intimidation, and violence.

The statement further accused Hope Uzodinma of orchestrating the incident as part of a broader effort to suppress the lawmaker and his supporters. It described the alleged use of tear gas and reported cases of brutality as part of a recurring pattern under the current administration.

APP warned that such actions, if not addressed, could set a dangerous precedent for opposition politics in the state. The party also referenced a previous incident at the lawmaker’s residence, which reportedly resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property.

Condemning the development, the party called on citizens of the state, both at home and abroad, to speak out. It also urged Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Imo State Elders Council, and the State House of Assembly to intervene and hold the governor accountable.

Attempts to reach the Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mbadiwe Emeluba, for a response were unsuccessful, as he did not reply to calls, text messages, or WhatsApp inquiries.
