Human rights activist and presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Federal High Court of trying to convict him at all costs to block his 2027 presidential ambition.
The activist made this allegation on Friday while interacting with newsmen after his trial at the court.
He further claimed that it is an automatic disqualification from running for any political office in Nigeria when one is convicted.
Furthermore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate leveled a scathing accusation against the judiciary, firmly alleging that no one can expect a fair trial under the current system.
He highlighted a shocking courtroom incident where a presiding judge explicitly ordered his defense counsel to kneel down.
“They want to convict me at all costs, so that I will be disqualified from contesting the 2027 election. That’s what it’s about.
Recall that Sowore is standing trial in defamation charges against President Tinubu, brought against him by the Department of State Services, DSS.
BACKSTORY…
Meanwhile, this comes barely 24 hours after Omoyele Sowore stated that the military does not have the authority to stop protesters from accessing the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He made the remarks on Thursday during a peaceful demonstration in the capital, organized to highlight Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.
According to him, the protest group was initially blocked by soldiers stationed at the entrance of the Presidential Villa. He, however, emphasized that the protesters chose not to confront security operatives because the demonstration was intended to remain peaceful.
