In a decisive move to tackle rising crime and insecurity, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has banned commercial motorbike operators, commonly known as Okada riders from operating across the state between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
Governor Makinde announced the strict new curfew on Friday, June 5, during a statewide broadcast. His address following mounting public alarm over the recent wave of kidnappings targeting teachers and children in the Oriire Local Government Area.
Furthermore, Governor Makinde emphasized that the restriction forms a vital part of his administration’s broader strategy to fortify regional security. The government intends for this measure to disrupt criminal operations and actively support ongoing security forces’ efforts to rescue the victims currently held in captivity.

While addressing residents, the governor reassured families of the abducted victims that the state government remained committed to their safe return.
He said, “We will not relent until our teachers and children are returned safely home. Every day they remain in captivity is a painful day for their families, their communities, and all of us in Oyo State.”
Additionally, he also said, “I want to assure our people that efforts are ongoing around the clock to ensure the safe return of the victims. Their rescue remains the top priority of this administration. They are not forgotten, and they are not abandoned.”
