President Bola Tinubu has submitted his All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination form for the 2027 election, retaining Kashim Shettima as his running mate.
The announcement was made on the President’s behalf by Ibrahim Masari, the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters.
Masari submitted the nomination forms for both Tinubu and Shettima during a brief meeting of APC stakeholders at the Continental Hotel in Abuja.
The submission formally validates Tinubu’s choice to keep Shettima as his running mate in the general election of 2027.
Recall that in June 2022, Tinubu selected Masari as his running mate, in placeholder capacity. The “placeholder” designation was intended to keep the joint ticket in place while Tinubu and the APC decided on the final VP nominee.
However, President Bola Tinubu subsequently confirmed Kashim Shettima as his official running mate.
Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo and chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, led APC governors to the event.
Additionally, members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), the All Progressives Congress National Working Committee, the party’s National Assembly caucus, and other APC leaders and stakeholders also attended.
The submission of the nomination forms officially marked the start of President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term on the All Progressives Congress platform, with Kashim Shettima once again completing the party’s presidential ticket.

Backstory…
President Bola Tinubu’s formal confirmation of Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate puts to rest months of speculation over whether the APC would retain its 2023 ticket for the 2027 presidential election.
The rumours gained momentum after a series of high-profile endorsements for Tinubu’s re-election failed to mention Shettima, while reports of alleged disagreements within the presidency and the ruling party fuelled claims that a replacement was being considered.
The speculation was further amplified by public comments from some APC stakeholders and the emergence of campaign posters bearing Tinubu’s image without that of the Vice President.
