‘Sarah Omakwu, Senior Pastor of Family Worship Center in Abuja, has urged Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to refrain from designating the Jabi Lake recreation area for private development.

In a video posted to her Instagram page on Sunday, Omakwu made the plea while kneeling on the platform and speaking to the pastor.

She said, “I cannot fight the minister of the FCT. I cannot. But I go on my knees as a mother in this land that Jabi Lake Recreation Centre should not be given to anybody.“That is where people go for exercise. That is where people sell, where people meet and hobnob and get married.”

“Thats where people go to watch games. Where young people go to. I beg you, Mr Minister, in the name of God, as a mother, to not sell that land to anybody.”

Sarah Omakwu, also mentioned worries about earlier events in Abuja, mentioning the gradual restrictions on public access to Aso Rock.

Additionally, the cleric urged the minister to keep the Jabi Lake area open to the public.

Her comments comes following reports that the FCTA signed agreements with private firms to transform Jabi Lake into a major recreational hub.

At a brief ceremony in his conference room that ratified the agreements, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike described Abuja as a fast-growing city with huge leisure and tourism potential.

Wike said the initiative would reposition the nation’s capital as a prime destination for recreation, while also addressing longstanding concerns about land speculation.
