U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized the Grammy Awards, describing the ceremony as virtually unwatchable while accusing host Trevor Noah of making a false and defamatory statement about him.
Trump made his feelings known in a post shared on his Truth Social account, where he ranked the event among the worst award shows he has seen.
Reacting further, Trump claimed broadcaster CBS was lucky to no longer air what he described as garbage content. He also compared Trevor Noah unfavorably to late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, questioning Noah’s performance as the master of ceremonies during the event.
The controversy followed a remark made by Noah during the ceremony, where he referenced Trump and former U.S. President Bill Clinton in relation to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The comment immediately sparked reactions, especially from Trump, who strongly rejected the claim.
In his response, Trump insisted that he has never been to Epstein’s private island or had any association with it. “I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close,” Trump wrote, adding that he had never previously been accused of such by the media.
Trump maintained that Trevor Noah’s comment was incorrect and defamatory, stressing that it damaged his reputation. He went on to warn that he was considering legal action against Noah over the statement made on live television.
The U.S. president described Noah as a pathetic and talentless host and suggested that his lawyers could pursue a lawsuit for damages. Trump also referenced previous legal battles with media figures, noting that such cases had worked out well in his favor in the past.
