2027: PDP Issues Defiant Call, Pledges to Do “Whatever It Takes” to Save Nigeria

Emmanuel Ogidi, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) acting national vice-chairman (South-South), has stated that the party is stepping up attempts to forge broad political coalitions and restore internal cohesiveness in front of the 2027 general elections.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ogidi stated that despite current internal issues, the PDP is still dedicated to upholding Nigeria’s democracy and reinventing itself as a strong opposition party.

Although he admitted that the party was experiencing some internal conflicts, he maintained that these problems would not interfere with its overarching goal of preserving democratic governance and rebuilding public trust.

He claims that the PDP is committed to meeting the expectations of Nigerians who view the party as a stabilising force in the democratic process and is fully aware of the gravity of the nation’s current political situation.

“Yes, today we have some pockets of trouble in the PDP today, but we are resolute and we believe in God because we know that we are the only viable opposition.

“We are going to fight for that cause; we will do whatever it takes to ensure that we have democracy; if we do not have democracy, then we will have a banana republic.

“We understand this part, and because of that, we will not disappoint the people; we want to do whatever it takes and we are determined.

“We are going to reach out to anybody reachable in the other political parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We want to see what we can take away from these parties; else, this country will face more serious challenges,” he said.

According to Ogidi, the PDP’s main priorities moving into the 2027 elections will be defending democracy, fostering national cohesion, and providing Nigerians with a respectable alternative to the ruling party.

He questioned why, less than two years into power, the ruling party seemed more concerned with political campaigns than with governance issues, accusing the APC of putting election wins ahead of efficient governance.

The head of the PDP cautioned that the deterioration of democratic institutions could lead to instability in the nation and promised that the party will take all necessary steps to avoid this.
