Nigerian music star Rema has opened on the reason his previous relationship came to an end, describing his former partner as manipulative.

Speaking during an interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the singer reflected on his past relationship, adding that while it had many good moments, it was far from perfect.

Rema claims that after juggling the responsibilities of his work and public life, he frequently looked forward to finding calm and relaxation. He asserted, however, that he frequently faced needless drama and stress at home instead of finding solace.

The award-winning artist also clarified that he finally made the decision to break up with her because he could no longer handle what he called her unsettling behaviour.

Although he said that the mental stress eventually made it unsustainable and caused him to leave, he acknowledged that they both shared lovely moments.

“My romantic relationship was beautiful but a little quite manipulative. So much pressure. Knowing the world puts so much pressure on me but coming back home is where you want to feel relieved but when you come back home and you are getting more pressure, it’s a different story. For now, I’m done.”

BACKSTORY…

Recall that in April, Rema revealed some of the challenges he faced after rising to fame at a young age.

In his recent song “Moviestar”—a collaboration with French musician Sofiane Pamart—his lyrics reveal that women drugged him during his early years in the spotlight.

Meanwhile, the singer gained widespread recognition in 2019 at the age of 19 after signing with Mavin Records and releasing his debut EP.

The 25-year-old said fans do not understand his personal grief because they don’t know that he “got caught up so young.”
