The Nyesom Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has successfully uploaded the names of its 2027 presidential, vice-presidential, and National Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) nomination portal.
The faction’s National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, announced the submission in a statement on Sunday, adding that it demonstrates the party’s full commitment to competing in the 2027 general election.
He said, “I am pleased to inform all PDP members and Nigerians that our great Party, under my leadership, has successfully uploaded the names of our Presidential Candidate, his Running Mate, and our National Assembly candidates onto the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal.
“This is a clear demonstration of our commitment to the promise we made that, under my leadership, the PDP will fully participate in the 2027 General Elections. Today, we have taken another decisive step towards fulfilling that promise.”
PDP Internal Crisis
The PDP’s submission of its presidential and National Assembly candidates comes after weeks of intense internal wrangling that threatened to derail the party’s preparations for the 2027 general election.
The crisis, driven by two rival factions laying claim to the party’s national leadership, resulted in parallel meetings, conflicting directives and the emergence of rival candidates for several elective positions.
The leadership dispute also triggered a legal battle over which faction held the legal right to conduct primaries and submit names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This legal standoff sparked fears that the courts could shut the party out of key electoral contests if the crisis remained unresolved.
Backstory…
Meanwhile, this move comes few days after FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faces an uphill task in its bid to reclaim power in the 2027 presidential election due to its lingering internal crisis.

Nyesom Wike made the remarks during his monthly media chat in Abuja, where he argued that the party must first resolve its internal challenges before it can realistically compete for the presidency.
According to him, rebuilding the PDP from the grassroots should take precedence over focusing on the 2027 presidential contest.
Wike also previously accused the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the party of misleading aspirants by collecting money from them despite lacking the authority to field candidates.
