The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Takes FCTA Workers to Court Over Strike Action
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has filed a lawsuit challenging the ongoing strike embarked upon by workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

The lawsuit was filed before the National Industrial Court following the commencement of an indefinite strike by the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC). The industrial action began after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum, which resulted in the shutdown of major government offices, including the Federal Capital Territory Administration Secretariat.
Court filings revealed that Nyesom Wike and the Federal Capital Territory Administration approached the National Industrial Court in Abuja seeking an order to restrain the unions. The application is asking the court to stop the unions from picketing, blocking offices, or disrupting official activities.

According to the court documents, the case bears suit number NICN/ABJ/17/2026 and has been fixed for hearing on Monday, January 26, 2025. This development has further drawn attention to the strike and the lawsuit as both parties prepare for legal confrontation.
Justice E.D. Subilim granted approval for substituted service of court processes on the union leadership. The judge authorized service through newspaper publication as well as the posting of notices at the JUAC office within the Federal Capital Territory Administration Secretariat.
Despite the legal action, the Joint Unions Action Committee has insisted that the strike will continue. The union stated that workers’ demands have not been met and urged its members to remain at home until further notice, maintaining its position amid the Wike FCT strike lawsuit.
