YCee opens up on being diagnosed with a mental health condition

YCee has opened up about his mental health journey, revealing that he was diagnosed with a mental health condition in 2020.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, the Omo Alhaji crooner shared that the diagnosis played a major role in his decision to step away from the music scene for a period.

According to YCee, he spent six months in London during the COVID-19 lockdown and was repeatedly hospitalised for about three months after learning about his condition.

He explained that he later returned to Nigeria to continue treatment because of visa limitations, describing his recovery process as a long and challenging journey.

The rapper said he remained on medication, underwent therapy, and experienced several hospital admissions over the years, noting that the process came with both progress and difficult moments.

YCee, however, disclosed that he is now in a more stable condition following years of treatment and therapy.

YCee rose to prominence in Nigeria’s music scene with hit songs like Omo Alhaji and later became known for his rap style and strong presence in Afrobeats and hip-hop.

At the peak of his career, YCee was one of the most talked-about young artistes, earning major collaborations and building a loyal fan base. However, in recent years, his reduced presence in the industry sparked questions from fans about his sudden break from music.

His latest revelation sheds light on the personal struggles behind that absence, as conversations around mental health continue to grow within the entertainment industry. More Nigerian celebrities have in recent years spoken publicly about their mental health battles, helping to reduce stigma and encourage awareness around seeking treatment and support.
