The Zamfara State Government, through the Zakkat and Endowment Board, has concluded arrangements to sponsor a mass wedding for 200 orphans in the state.
Journalists in Gusau were informed of this by Malam Habibu Balarabe, the Executive Secretary of the Board. According to him, the ceremony would take place at the Board’s location on Monday, November 23, 2025.

He stated that every recipient of the mass wedding has been chosen and screened.
In addition to the mass wedding programme, the Board will also provide grants to 200 women engaged in small-scale businesses to support and expand their livelihoods.
According to Balarabe, 100 women have finished a three-week training program in chicken farming and will be given beginning packets to start their businesses.

He stated that the Board has also made preparations to resolve selected debt cases in Shari’ah Courts and penal institutions across the state.
The Executive Secretary additionally said that certain orphans had completed computer literacy training and would receive starting packs during the occasion.
In northern Nigeria however, mass weddings are not new, and in recent years, communities and leaders have used them as a means of helping families in need.

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris sponsored 300 couples’ weddings in February of 2025, paying for all dowries totalling around N54 million.
Top dignitaries, including the Emir of Gwandu and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, attended the event, which was held in the Emir’s palace.
