Emmanuel Friday Ben has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Akwa Ibom State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Daniel Umobong, announced the outcome on Saturday in Uyo shortly after the party’s primary election exercise.

He said Emmanuel Friday Ben was the only aspirant who purchased the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms, alongside other candidates for legislative positions, including 10 for the State House of Assembly and five for the House of Representatives.

According to him, all aspirants were duly screened in line with party guidelines and were cleared after meeting the required conditions.

The State Labour Party chairman, Comrade Lincoln Charles, congratulated the flagbearers, especially Ben, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the state effectively if elected.

He also dismissed claims of factional division within the party in Akwa Ibom, insisting that he remains the only recognized state chairman.

Charles further stated that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present to monitor the primary election.

He maintained that only candidates produced through the concluded primary were recognized by both INEC and the party in the state.

In his acceptance speech, Emmanuel Friday Ben, speaking on behalf of other candidates, appreciated the party for the trust placed in him and pledged to work towards victory in the general elections.
