The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that over 50% of its candidates for the 2027 general elections emerged through consensus arrangements.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Thursday, NDC national spokesperson, Osa Director, alleged that some individuals were attempting to undermine the party by claiming it is no different from other political platforms.
He reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to a transparent and inclusive democratic process, insisting that internal selection was being handled differently from what is obtainable in many other parties.
According to him, more than half of the party’s candidates were chosen through consensus. He said the party is determined to avoid “business as usual” and is committed to a new political culture that reflects accountability and openness.
Director also noted that the party’s growing popularity has attracted wide interest, but only some aspirants could eventually secure tickets, which may leave others dissatisfied. However, he maintained that the NDC does not “reject” anyone in principle.
He further likened the party to a “political Noah’s Ark,” describing it as a platform intended to promote national transformation, development and inclusive progress for Nigerians.
