Final plans have been put in place as the Nigeria Democratic Congress(NDC) is set to ratify former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate today Friday, May 29.

The event is to take place during the party’s nationwide primaries, following his emergence as the sole aspirant for the ticket.

The party also said governorship, National Assembly, and state Houses of Assembly candidates would emerge across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, despite the logistical challenges caused by the Eid-el-Kabir holidays.

The party national chairman revealed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, explaining that transportation difficulties and the unavailability of flights delayed some preparatory activities after the screening exercise in the FCT.
The statement also noted that, May 28 (Thursday) was for arrivals, documentation with INEC and security agencies, consultative meetings and other preparatory activities ahead of the primaries.

Meanwhile, the NDC firmly warned that no state agency, including the Police, INEC, and the DSS, should participate in the events and meetings scheduled for May 28.

Additionally, the NDC pointed that it would regard any activity carried out outside the approved guidelines as illegal and unauthorised.

He said the primaries would still hold nationwide on May 29, 2026, in line with the original May 28 and 29 timetable.

He further urged members and aspirants to remain peaceful and orderly throughout the exercise, stressing that the party would not tolerate violence, disorderly conduct or hooliganism during the primaries.
