The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has ratified Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra state, as its 2027 presidential candidate.
The NDC made the decision at its national convention held in Abuja on Saturday.
Recall that Obi picked NDC presidential nomination and expression of interest forms on May 17.
Three days later, he was cleared by the NDC national screening committee as the party’s sole presidential aspirant ahead the primaries.
Meanwhile, following his ratification, Peter Obi NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as his running mate.
Additionally, he declared that his administration would take on Nigeria’s current security, educational, and economic issues head-on.
Speaking further, the former Anambra State governor lamented that Nigeria produces less than 10 percent of the rice output of countries such as Bangladesh, Vietnam, and India despite having more land per person and the resources to become a major rice-producing nation.
In addition, Obi said Nigeria should export rice rather than depend on imports, adding that his administration would shift the country from consumption to production.
He said, “We should be exporting rice. I maintain that we can make more money from the vast land in the North than we make from oil.”
He also pledged that his government would raise power generation and distribution to at least 10,000 megawatts within four years.
Obi further added his government would work towards creating a similar environment in Nigeria to enable businesses to thrive and create jobs.

Recall that Peter Obi and Kwankwaso formally defected from the APC earlier in May and joined the ADC.
On may third, the duo officially registered as members of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
Despite criticism and backlash from the ADC, the former Anambra state governor went ahead to pick his presidential form under NDC.
