Minister of Works, David Umahi, has criticised the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, accusing him of engaging in what he described as “Artificial Intelligence (AI) politics.”
Umahi made the remarks during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday, where he insisted that Obi does not pose a political threat.
According to the minister, Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State does not justify his criticism of the current administration.
“Peter Obi is playing AI politics. Nobody is scared of him,” Umahi said.
He alleged that while serving as governor, Obi invested state funds in banks despite owing contractors, and claimed that the education sector under his administration was centred around special examination centres.
Umahi also accused the former governor of failing to make significant investments in critical infrastructure, including roads, airports and the healthcare sector.
“Obi cannot even face me, talk more of facing President Bola Tinubu,” he added.
The minister’s comments come after Obi urged the Federal Government to prioritise the rehabilitation of deteriorating roads across the country rather than embarking on the construction of new highways.
David Umahi’s remarks come amid renewed political exchanges between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections. Peter Obi, who has remained vocal on issues of governance and infrastructure since the 2023 presidential election, has repeatedly criticised the Federal Government’s policies, particularly its road construction priorities, prompting responses from senior officials in the Tinubu administration.
