2027: Rep Abejide makes bold move, officially joins APC

The lawmaker representing Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State, Leke Abejide, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abejide formalised his move on Saturday and received the party’s nomination forms for the Yagba Federal Constituency election in the state.

His defection comes a day after he resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Explaining his decision, the lawmaker said his lawyer advised him to leave the party, noting that the ADC’s current leadership crisis—stemming from a recent Federal High Court ruling—would make it difficult for anyone to sign his nomination form.

Backstory…

The defection comes amid a leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following a recent Federal High Court ruling, which left the party without a clearly recognised leadership. This created uncertainty around key processes, including the signing of nomination forms ahead of the 2027 elections.

As a result, Leke Abejide, acting on legal advice, opted to leave the party to avoid complications with his candidacy and secure a more stable political platform.
